Joey’s Movers is the most referred mover in Chicagoland, and for good reason. This family-owned and operated business was built on the simple principle that “when you take good care of your customers …. your customers take good care of you.”
Joseph Brooks is an Evanston native whose family has lived there for over 100 years combined. His great-grandfather owned one of the first farms in the area. Other than spending a few college years in California (where he met his wife), he’s spent his entire life in the Chicagoland area. He loves the weather and the city of Chicago, and he loves its people.
If you ask Joey’s customers why they refer their friends and family to the company for all their moving needs, you’ll hear a variety of different sentiments that all add up to the same thing:
- They work hard
- They provide exceptional customer service
- They truly care about doing a great job for their clients.
All those attributes are part and parcel of how Joseph Brooks has always lived his life. His great-grandfather taught him that the key to success was to outwork the competition, and he got the chance to put that into action when he went to work for Fanny’s World Famous Restaurant in the 1970s.
When Joey was in middle school, he desperately wanted to prove his willingness to work hard and earn his own money. When he heard that Fannie’s, an Italian diner on Simpson Street, was hiring, he applied and was hired on the spot by Fannie herself.
He remembers bussing tables and overhearing Fannie tell a waiter, “Joey is the hardest working kid I’ve ever hired…if I had ten more of him, I’d retire.” That quick remark and the pride it instilled in him stays with Joseph to this day. It’s why he always pushes himself and his employees to over-deliver for their customers.
When Joseph decided to establish Joey’s Movers in 1980, he knew he could never compete with the giant national moving companies. Instead, he set out to provide family-oriented, local, personalized service that goes above and beyond. He gets to know his customers and enjoys doing it, and he hires people who have the same values and loyalty – over 50% of Joey’s Movers employees have been with the company for ten years or more.
Giving back to the community:
Joey’s values are applied to more than his business and customers. They believe in giving back to the community and supporting many organizations in need, providing complimentary moving for Evanston Skokie churches’ holiday initiatives and for those assisting refugee families as they gather furniture to furnish their new homes. Joey’s Movers also donates holiday turkeys to low-income senior housing communities and visits senior citizen centers around the Evanston community and Chicago’s south side.
Joseph Brooks and his family have built an exceptional company on the lessons he learned from his very first employer. The consistent, exceptional level of service Joey’s Movers provides is why three generations of North Shore families have used Joey’s for all of their moving needs.
